MonetDB releases new version

28/02/2009 12:03

It's not even on the MonetDB website, but the new February 2009 release has been uploaded to the MonetDB download area. The good news: native installers for Debian and Ubuntu added, both 32 and 64 bit. Other good news: you can run a SF100 (100 GB) TPC-H database on a regular PC. Don't expect magic though: it's still a memory optimized column store so with only 8 GB of RAM some queries take about an hour to complete. Still, considerable performance and stability improvements compared to the previous Nov. 2008 release and absolutely worthwile to check out if you're considering open source databases for analytical purposes. More information about MonetDB is available here, and to get an impression of how it performs have a look at this recent blog post.
